Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz asserted that the future of the Republican Party lies in Donald Trump running for the presidency in 2024.

Trump, in a recent Newsmax interview, did not rule out running for the White House again: “I won’t say it yet, but we have tremendous support.”

In an interview on Fox News, the Congressman added that he had met with Trumprecently and that he was “absolutely talking like a candidate.”

The firebrand conservative criticized the lack of unity in the GOP. Referring to the dueling examples of Representatives Liz Cheney, who voted to impeach Trump, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has remained steadfast and loyal to the former President while defending herself from criticism of her controversial past.

“I don’t see a Republican Party that is completely united. There’s the ‘America First’ wing of the party, pro-Trump, and there’s the establishment wing of the party, and the establishment wants its power back,” he said.

Last week, Trump warned that the GOP would not win again by keeping Sen. Mitch McConnell at the helm.

“The Republican Party can never again be respected or be as strong with political ‘leaders’ like Senator Mitch McConnell at the helm. If we continue with McConnell at the head of the caucus, Republicans will never win again,” he said in a statement.

He also predicted a civil war within the GOP and blamed McConnellfor electoral defeats.
