The online solidarity concert We’re Texas, organized by Texas actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves McConaughey, has raised nearly $8 million. This money will go towards alleviating the plight of many Texas residents following the severe storms they suffered a few weeks ago.

The We’re Texas festival took place last Sunday, March 21, and was broadcast on Matthew McConaughey’s own YouTube channel, as well as on the local network Spectrum News 1. For more than two hours, dozens of artists performed altruistically, and more than one million people have already seen the video.

According to Matthew McConaughey himself, all donations received will be used through the Texas Relief Fund to alleviate – in the short, medium and long term – the critical situation of the people of Texas as a result of the devastating winter storm Uri.

Donations continue to pour in and, to date, nearly $8 million has been raised, coming not only from thousands of small contributions from anonymous individuals, but also from contributions made by several private companies, including Dell Technologies, an iconic Texas technology company.

We’re Texas featured major artists, both native Texans, residents, and supporters of the Lone Star State. Post Malone, Kelly Clarkson, Willie Nelson, and Don Henley of the Eagles, are just a few of the names that made up the stellar lineup for the show. We’re Texas also featured special appearances by other Texas and McConaughey colleagues and friends, such as Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx, Selena Gomez, Renée Zellweger, Joe Rogan, and Woody Harrelson, McConaughey’s former co-star in the renowned True Detective first season.

The winter storm affected the entire country, but Texas has been particularly affected, with extensive property damage and power outages, which have put its inhabitants in a very difficult situation.

Although the electricity supply has been restored for most of the population, they are still suffering the consequences of broken pipes and roads, which have left thousands of people without drinking water and without access to food.

The funds raised by We’re Texas will undoubtedly contribute to a speedy return to normalcy in Texas, as well as relief from the most peremptory situations.

Matthew McConaughey, who has always been very proud of his Texas roots, has been quick and efficient in making this effort to support those most affected, covering their basic needs and collaborating in the recovery and reconstruction of their homes and infrastructure.

We’re Texas boosts Matthew McConaughey’s image as a candidate for governor

The success of this private initiative led by Matthew McConaughey and his wife reinforces his already excellent public image and could be a serious endorsement of his possible candidacy for governor of the state.

In recent months, Matthew McConaughey has hinted at possibly running for governor in the next election. While he has yet to make an official announcement, many are already taking it for granted that his candidacy will be a reality.

In recent podcasts and interviews, Matthew McConaughey has revealed some of his political views. These rather eclectic opinions do not allow us to be sure of Matthew McConaughey’s exact political affiliation, and no one can yet be sure whether, if he were to run for governor, he would run on the Democratic or Republican platform.

The success of the organization of this solidarity festival has made it clear that his commitment to Texas is undeniable, and his effectiveness and speed have made his popularity and prestige rise, which would make him a serious candidate to be the next governor of Texas.
