Michigan Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel said that every school should have a drag queen. She maintained that this is not an issue that divides society and assured that they are “fun” people who “make everything better.”

“You know what is not a problem for kids who are seeking a good education? Drag queens,” Nessel said during a speech at a summit in Lansing hosted by the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and reviewed by Detroit News.

She added, “Drag queens are entertainment. And you know what I’ll say that was totally not poll-tested, I’d say this, ‘A drag queen for every school.’” The comments, the media outlet notes, generated laughter from participants at the event.

Criticism of the attorney general

Republicans, such as Donald Trump Jr. criticized the comments and assured that this is the proposal that the Democrats have. “’A Drag Queen for every school’ is a great summation of today’s Democrat Party Platform,” Trump wrote on his Twitter account.

Michigan GOP chief of staff Paul Cordes called the prosecutor’s comments unbelievable: “This is not normal. She shouldn’t be allowed to joke this away. Dana Nessel is unfit for any office, especially Attorney General.”

This is not the first controversy on this issue. Last week, a report revealed that New York City spent more than $200,000 in funding over the past five years to get Drag Queens into classrooms and interacting with children as young as 3 years old. The information was reported by the New York Post.

Faced with the situation, parents assured the New York Post that this type of initiative should not be promoted with public money. “I would be furious if [my child] was exposed without my consent. This is not part of the curriculum,” said one mother.
