This Key Senate Election Favors GOP

IN AUGUST of this year, and with the mid-term elections drawing closer, Sen. Ted Cruz assured that Adam Laxalt is the Republican most likely to steal a seat this cycle. The Texan was referring to the Senate race in Nevada and his assertion was reinforced by the latest polls, which show the GOP growing in that state.

According to a new Emerson College poll, the Republican would prevail with a narrow margin, over Catherine Cortéz Masto, 42% to 41%, to stain red the historic seat that belonged to Harry Reid.

“Men and women break nearly in opposite directions; male voters break for Laxalt by six and women voters break for Cortez Masto by seven. Additionally, Cortez Masto holds a 19-point lead among Hispanic voters and 27-point lead among Black voters, whereas Laxalt leads White voters by 9,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College, said.

If Republicans are serious about regaining control of the Upper House, the Nevada election is perhaps the most important of this cycle along with Georgia. If they win both, the GOP could afford to lose Pennsylvania, where Mehmet Oz has been closing in on John Fetterman.

The poll also asked likely voters about President Biden’s performance and the result was not surprising. “A majority of Nevada voters (53%) disapprove of the job that Joe Biden is doing as President, while 37% approve,” Emerson College said.

In addition, the poll also asked about a hypothetical confrontation between Donald Trump and Biden for 2024. According to the results, the creator of the MAGA movement would prevail with 43%, against 40% of the current Commander in Chief.

Finally, voters were asked about the most important topic when it comes to choosing one party or the other. “The economy is the most important issue to 42% of Nevada voters when determining their vote, followed by abortion access (18%), healthcare (9%), immigration (8%), crime (5%), water supply (4%), and education (3%),” the pollster said.
