Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s Politics Don’t Belong in America

Yesterday, Sohrab Ahmari, contributing editor of The American Conservative, wrote that “There is an inverse correlation between publicly claiming to despise Schmitt’s account of politics and practicing politics precisely according to that account.” Carl Schmitt’s, one of Nazism’s main ideologues, said with cunning realism that the main distinction in politics is that between friend and enemy.

Those of us who wish to return to a saner form of doing politics, believe that Schmitt’s distinction is more pessimistic than realistic. But bloodlust progressives like former congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL), show that they believe politics should be a free-for-all where almost anything is valid against your enemy.

In somewhat broken Spanish, Mucarsel-Powell called El American and Radio Mambi a “national security threat” because we are “fooling Latinos in the U.S. and helping Russia,” and attached a screenshot of our Twitter timeline merely reporting that Russia said it was false that it had a kill list of Ukrainians. Imagine the level of entitlement you must feel to be a step short of calling someone a domestic terrorist for merely reporting news.

We didn’t take sides; we didn’t support Russia–in fact, a quick peek at our website would show we’ve been bitterly critical of Putin–we just reported.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Mucarsel-Powell and her progressive friends try to silence outlets like El American. In 2020, along with Rep. Joaquín Castro (D-TX), she asked the FBI to investigate misinformation targeting Latinos.

In the progressive worldview, they’re so right about everything that they can spit, humiliate, and slander you if they wish–and then demand that you say “thanks” to them. They have no limits: they will censor you for reporting news, de-platform you for having the wrong opinions, freeze your bank account if you join the wrong protest, take your 5-year-old son from you if you don’t want him to wear a dress and a long etcetera.

Anything because they despise you. In the end, you’re not a human being, you’re the enemy. And this sort of dualistic politics has eroded the very fabric of America, and even the whole West. This way of doing politics does not belong in America. God bless Rep. Carlos Giménez and the voters of Florida’s 26th District for voting Debbie Mucarsel-Powell out of office.

Fortunately, in El American, our values are clear. We defend freedom. Even if we despise the views of others, most of us have first-hand experience of how damaging censorship can be. We defend people’s right to speak their minds.  And yes, that includes Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.
