The team of women working with Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who is under investigation for an alleged affair with a 17-year-old teenage girl, released a statement Thursday defending the integrity of their boss.

The statement is endorsed by “the women in the office of U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz.”

In it, the “women” on Gaetz’s staff “flatly reject the allegations” against the politician and call them “false.”

“During Congressman Gaetz’s time in office, we have integrated his meetings, planned his events and traveled with him (…). On every occasion he has treated each and every one of us, he has done so with respect,” the statement said.

It adds that “women are not only respected, but have been encouraged time and time again to grow, achieve more and ultimately know our worth.”

The Justice Department is investigating whether Gaetz had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl and violated federal laws by paying for rides for the underage girl. The Republican has not been charged in connection with the investigation and has fervently denied the allegations against him.

It was The New York Times that recently uncovered the Justice Department’s investigation of Gaetz.

The congressman, a strong ally of former President Donald Trump, has adamantly stated since the scandal broke that his alleged involvement in the matter is a “lie.”

“I will fight like hell for my constituents and for the country I love dearly. You deserve no less, especially now,” the congressman wrote on Facebook.

According to the newspaper, Gaetz is being investigated by the FBI to determine whether he engaged in sex trafficking for allegedly paying for rides to a 17-year-old girl with whom he allegedly had sex in 2019.
