Nicki Minaj claimed that she had been censored on Twitter after raising questions on COVID vaccines and government mandates. Twitter, however, refutes Minaj’s claims and said that the rapper’s tweets do not violate the company’s rules.
It all started after Minaj questioned COVID vaccine mandates. First, she had said that she was being asked to be vaccinated to attend the infamous Met Gala, to which she refused, claiming that she prefers to continue researching about the antidote.
But the rapper went further and wrote on Twitter that a friend of her cousin’s had had adverse effects from the vaccine. He allegedly became “impotent” after receiving the dose and as Minaj tells it, it all happened hours before he got married.
“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” tweeted Minaj.

After the messages, the criticisms were not long in coming. Several users began to say that Minaj was spreading false information about the vaccine, a topic that is regulated by Twitter.
Subsequently, the singer commented that the reaction of users led Twitter to censor her on the platform, which she also described as a prison. Therefore, she decided to express herself in the story through her Instagram account.
However, a spokesperson for the company insisted to the Los Angeles Times that no action was taken in Minaj’s case because, apparently, the rapper’s posts did not inflict Twitter’s rules.
This is not the first time a public figure has reported being censored on the digital platform for spreading information about COVID-19. In fact, according to Twitter rules, it is forbidden to manipulate information about the disease or vaccines.
“We will begin tagging tweets that may contain misleading information about COVID-19 vaccines, in addition to our ongoing efforts to remove the most harmful misleading information about COVID-19,” the company explains.
Fauci steps in
Anthony Fauci, the White House’s top infectious disease expert, argued in an interview with CNN that there is no scientific evidence to confirm what Minaj said. “The answer is a resounding no,” Fauci stressed.
He added: “There is no evidence that it would happen, nor is there any mechanistic reason to imagine that it would happen.”
Meanwhile, journalist Jennifer Epstein reported that the White House offered Nicki Minaj a call to clarify her doubts regarding COVID-19. Faced with the information, Minaj indicated that she will accept the invitation and ask all the questions she has to show that she is serious about the vaccine information.
“The White House has invited me & I think it’s a step in the right direction. Yes, I’m going. I’ll be dressed in all pink like Legally Blonde so they know I mean business. I’ll ask questions on behalf of the ppl who have been made fun of for simply being human,” Minaj said.
