The Mayor of North Las Vegas, John Lee, announced on Tuesday that he was joining the Republican Party. The decision, Lee said, was made because in the Democratic Party everything has to do with socialism, and it is not possible to be a pro-life with values different from the socialist ones. He maintained that this was not the party line when he came in.

“In the Democratic Party of Nevada, they had an election recently for leadership, and four of the five people were card-carrying members of the socialistic (sic) party,” Lee said. “It’s not the party that I grew up with 25 years ago in this environment and it’s not the party that I can stand with anymore,” Lee said in an interview with Fox News.

In addition, he stressed that entrepreneurs, small businesses and workers are also part of American society and that this is not talked about among Democrats. “It all has to do with the elitists and it has to do with the socialists. That is not the agenda that I have in mind for this country or the future” he stressed.

Socialism in the Democratic Party

The mayor also pointed out that it was not possible to be pro-life and defender of conservative ideas within the Democratic Party. Likewise, he explained that he thought long and hard before making the decision and that he did not make it before hoping that things would change. However, he assured that in the Republican Party he has a place.

“I found a new place to which I can put my loyalty and help. Again, forget about the last eight years. It’s the next four years that predict the future,” he maintained.

In the Democratic Party there has been an ongoing discussion due to the fact that several of its members are part of socialist ranks. In fact, some of its leaders, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, belong to socialist organizations such as Democratic Socialists of America.
