New York Police are looking for an African-American woman for punching another woman on the subway and saying she did it because she “hated Mexicans,” the New York City Police Department (NYPD) said Tuesday.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the incident, which happened yesterday in a subway car in the city.
The 41-year-old victim was on a Brooklyn subway Monday morning talking on the phone when, without warning, the woman sitting next to her got up and began punching her in the face, according to police.
“Why did you hit me?” the victim asked, to which the attacker replied, “I hate Mexicans.”
The victim suffered bruising, swelling, and a cut on her lip, but refused medical attention.
When the train stopped, the victim was able to take a photo of the attacker, and those images were later shared on social media.
