The Democratic Party calls for censorship of its political opponents. It made this clear through a tweet, where it celebrated the fact that former Republican President Donald Trump cannot access his Facebook account.

“Retweet if you agree: Facebook permanently blocked Trump,” said @TheDemocrats, the official Twitter account of the Democratic National Committee.

The reactions did not take long in coming as hundreds of Americans criticized that the ruling party celebrates censorship and even went so far as to compare it to regimes like those of China, Russia, and Iran.

“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it – Not the Democratic party,” responded one user condemning the Democrats’ blocking of free speech.

“Authoritarianism through proxy. I would say that I’m shocked but I would be lying,” another user noted.

The Twitter post came after Facebook’s oversight board ruled in favor of keeping Trump’s account suspended. However, the panel recommended reviewing the decision within six months and publicly detailing its sanctions policy.

Although the council ratified Facebook’s decision, it criticized that the sanction “did not follow a clear and published procedure,” since “indefinite” suspensions are not described in the company’s content policies.

Conservatives condemn Facebook

Facebook’s decision to uphold its ban on President Donald Trump is extremely disappointing. It’s clear that Mark Zuckerberg views himself as the arbiter of speech.

For his part, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy issued a warning to Big Tech:

Facebook is more interested in acting like a Democrat Super PAC than a platform for free speech and open debate.

If they can ban President Trump, all conservative voices could be next.

A House Republican majority will rein in big tech power over our speech.

“Disgraceful. For every liberal celebrating Trump’s social media ban, if the Big Tech oligarchs can muzzle the former President, what’s to stop them from silencing you?” said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a possible 2024 presidential pre-candidate, also criticized Big Tech: “Facebook and Twitter ban a former U.S. President, yet, some of the world’s worst dictators, terrorists, and bad actors still have a platform,” Haley wrote on Twitter. “This is a gross double standard and it’s why most Americans don’t trust big tech.” she sentenced.
