Armando Christian Pérez (Miami, 1981), better known as Pitbull or Mr. Worldwide, is an American singer, rapper, songwriter and music producer whose family escaped the Castro’s Communist tyranny in Cuba. In September 2020, Pitbull was interviewed on RevoltTV’s Drink Champs program, where he showed his concern about the advance of Communism in America under the excuse of the pandemic.
In 2009 Pitbull had already explained, in an interview in CNN, how his grandmother, who initially collaborated with the Communist revolution but later became disenchanted with its results, took advantage of Operation Peter Pan to send her two daughters to the United States. This operation was an initiative of the U.S. Government in the early 1960s, through which – in coordination with the Catholic Church and Cubans in exile – thousands of Cuban families affected by the Communist repression of the Castro government were helped to get 14,000+ children out of Cuba to the United States. One of those children was Armando’s mother.
Pitbull has always been critical of Communism in general, and the Castro regime in particular. In 2011, in an interview for The Guardian, he reiterated that, although he has performed in practically every country in the world, he will not perform in Cuba “until there’s no more Castro and there’s a free Cuba. To me, Cuba’s the biggest prison in the world, and I would be very hypocritical were I to perform there. The people in Cuba know what I stand for, and there’s a lot of people in Cuba that stand for the same. But they can’t say it.”
Pitbull believes that wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt, as some celebrities do, “It’s like wearing an Adolf Hitler T-shirt and not knowing it. You’re gonna offend a lot of people.” He criticized artists such as Colombian Juanes, who performed in Cuba in a concert for peace. “Dude, you can’t change Cuba,” Pitbull asserted. “History shows you that you can’t change Cuba. I respect him as an artist, but he’s like the Hispanic Bono from U2. I don’t respect his decision.”
Pitbull on the advance of Communism in America
Last September 2020, appearing on the RevoltTV show, Pitbull again harshly criticized Communism and issued a warning about its subtle advance in the United States due to the pandemic.
“My family comes from Communism, they fled Communism, they had everything taken away from them, everybody got murdered, everybody got killed,” Pitbull said. “That’s the reason me, being a first-generation Cuban American, I look at freedom and I appreciate that s***. I appreciate opportunity. That comes from the fact that Castro took over everything.”
Pitbull stated that Fidel Castro would be envious to see what governments have achieved with the excuse of a simple virus. According to him, “Castro had to point missiles at the United States” to gain power, however, politicians needed nothing more than to use the pandemic to obtain the total obedience and submission of citizens, even to take such devastating measures as confinements, quarantines and lockdowns of all activity.
Pitbull stated that if one delves into everything behind the coronavirus, one can discover disturbing things like “Event 201,” an exercise conducted in 2019 by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health and Security, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. According to Pitbull, this would be nothing more than a rehearsal of everything that was to come.
Knowing that these statements could be labeled as “conspiracy theory,” Pitbull also added to the growing criticism towards Big Tech for its collaboration with governments to expand censorship.”If anybody is not a part of the narrative we gonna take it off online… which to me smells like… Communism,” Pitbull added.
The singer took the opportunity to advise people to “stop being worried about followers and likes, and whose on TikTok and Instagram.”
With these statements, Pitbull joins some artists who have shown enough courage to go against the official narrative, such as, for example, John Dolmayan, from System of a Down. We will have to wait and see the consequences for Pitbull, winner of a Grammy in 2016 and a Latin Grammy in 2013.
