A terrorist attack took place this Tuesday at the Camilo Daza international airport in the city of Cúcuta, Colombia, where the detonation of two explosives left two policemen and a civilian dead.
According to Colombia’s Minister of Defense, Diego Molano Aponte, the criminals were trying to enter the airport’s apron by jumping over security fences, with the presumed objective of planting the device inside the facilities.
The first device exploded, and the criminal responsible died on the spot. National Police and Army officers rushed to the vicinity and identified a second device, which exploded when police officers David Reyes and William Bareño approached, causing their death.
The terrorist attack was planned from Venezuela
According to Minister Molano, the attack was allegedly planned and financed from Venezuela by terrorist groups associated with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the National Liberation Army (ELN).
Colombian President Iván Duque repudiated the “cowardly terrorist attack” through his official Twitter account and sent his solidarity to the families of the police officers killed in the attack.
“This is the reaction that the cowards of terrorism have to the blows that the public force has been dealing, and we are going to continue hitting them,” President Duque told the press. “We are going to continue breaking all those structures of terrorism and drug trafficking in our country.”
For his part, the Director-General of the Colombian National Police, General Jorge Luis Vargas, also expressed his rejection of the terrorist attack that killed the two police officers and said that the police “will not rest” until those responsible are brought to justice.
