Berkeley, California, teachers union leader Matt Meyer is in the eye of the storm after a video of him taking his 2-year-old daughter to a private preschool became public. Meyer is an advocate that the sanitary conditions are not suitable for a return to face-to-face classes.

Parents in the Berkeley school district have been outraged and claim that “Meyer’s action is a display of hypocrisy.”

“The president of the Berkeley Federation of Teachers is blocking the opening of public education in person, but has been driving his own daughter to school since June 2020. Our children are suffering. Schools open full-time now,” wrote a via Twitter and YouTube a group known as Guerilla Momz, made up of a collection of mothers advocating for open schools.

Meanwhile, Meyer told Fox News that the video violates his daughter’s privacy, and claimed that “unfortunately, there are no public options for children her age. There are big differences in running a small preschool and a 10,000-person public school district in terms of size, facilities, public health guidance, and services that legally must be provided.”

Also, he added that the school district will soon reopen with a plan, “supported by our members and the district, for our students to return to face-to-face classes starting this month,” referring to the hybrid learning model that will be implemented starting March 29 to incorporate younger students.
