Two prosecutors leading an investigation into Donald Trump in New York resigned from the case on Wednesday. According to The New York Times, they made the decision after the lead prosecutor expressed doubts about the process.

“The stunning development comes not long after the high-stakes inquiry appeared to be gaining momentum, and throws its future into serious doubt,” says the NYT.

According to the media outlet, the lead prosecutor showed doubts about the case, “amid a monthlong pause in their presentation of evidence to a grand jury.”

“They have not questioned any witnesses in front of the grand jury for more than a month, essentially pausing their investigation into whether Mr. Trump inflated the value of his assets to obtain favorable loan terms from banks.”

The prosecutor expressed concern about the consistency of the case against Donald Trump. (EFE)

The NYT explained that the pause coincides “with an escalation in the activity of a parallel civil inquiry by the New York state attorney general, Letitia James, whose office is examining some of the same conduct by Mr. Trump.”

But this is not James’ first attempt to attack the former president through the legal route. The Democrat investigated the Trump administration more than seventy times. The Republican argued that James’ actions against him were a “witch hunt.”
