The British Government announced on Thursday the imposition of sanctions for corruption against five individuals, among them the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, “Teodorín” Obiang – son of President Teodoro Obiang – and Nicolás Maduro’s frontman, Alex Saab.

The British Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, made the announcement in a statement in which he explained that five people involved in corruption cases in Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, Venezuela and Iraq are being sanctioned for “depriving developing countries of vital resources”.

London includes among those affected by this measure Alex Saab, frontman for Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, and his associate Álvaro Pulido Vargas for “exploiting two Venezuelan public programs that were set up to supply poor Venezuelans with food and affordable housing.”
