While the southern border of the United States collapses with thousands of illegal immigrants, Joe Biden’s special envoy for Haiti decided to resign in the face of what he called “inhumane and counterproductive deportations.”

Ambassador Daniel Foote resigned from his post on Thursday, September 23, and said he would not participate in the U.S. decision to deport thousands of Haitian refugees.

In his resignation letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Foote said the Biden administration’s approach to Haiti “remains deeply flawed” and said his recommendations have been “ignored and discarded.”

“I will not be associated with the United States inhumane, counterproductive decision to deport thousands of Haitian refugees and illegal immigrants to Haiti, a country where American officials are confined to secure compounds because of the danger posed by armed gangs in control of daily life,” he charged.

Foote, who was appointed to his post in July, described in the letter the “suffering” of the people of Haiti and said the country “simply cannot support the forced infusion of thousands of returned migrants lacking food, shelter, and money without additional, avoidable human tragedy.”

“The United States remains committed to supporting safe, orderly, and humane migration throughout our region, and we engage with partners throughout the migratory corridor to impress upon them our shared responsibility for humane migration management, which includes enforcing migration laws and protecting vulnerable populations,” a State Department spokesperson told Fox News.

Illegal migrants from Haiti collapse the border

Foote’s resignation comes as more than 14,000 Haitian migrants arrived at the U.S. border and set up makeshift camps under the bridge in Del Rio, Texas.

The information known so far is that since he became President, the Biden Administration released more than 600,000 migrants in the interior of the country; and that now, in view of the massive arrival of Haitians, it is deporting single adult men without allowing them to apply for asylum.

The Department of Homeland Security has said that the migrants are being moved on flights under Title 42 public health protections, thereby stepping up deportation flights to Haiti as part of its strategy to combat the crisis.

“DHS continues to expel migrants under CDC’s Title 42 authority,” a spokesperson for the agency told Fox News.

Unaccompanied minors, meanwhile, are not deported, but are processed in the United States and remain in the custody of “sponsors.”
