In a manifesto, the alliance of 150 anti-Trump Republicans demand the GOP dissociates itself from the pro-Trump tendency; otherwise, they said they would create a third party.

The manifesto, called “A call for American renewal” is presented as a document that confronts the trend that the Republican Party assumed since Trump’s arrival in 2015, since his candidacy, and which developed into his presidency.

“When in our democratic republic, forces of conspiracy, division, and despotism arise, it is the patriotic duty of citizens to act collectively in defense of liberty and justice,” the manifesto says.

They expressed their intention to push for what they call an “American renewal” and restructure the GOP. If the goal is not achieved, the reformers say they will accelerate the creation of such a platform.

In the manifesto, he anti-Trump Republicans proceed to list a number of values they say inspire such an initiative.

On democracy, these Republicans state that they support reforms that will foster a more “accessible” democracy. In this regard, one of their signatories, Bill Weld, opposes voter ID laws, according to Equal Citizens.

They further state that they oppose populism and illiberalism, wherever it comes from.

On founding ideals, they state that they condemn “all forms of intolerance such as racism, religious intolerance, sexism and persecution based on sexual orientation.”

On the point of freedom of speech, the Republicans say they defend “sustain the rights of individuals and private entities to exercise this freedom, even to express unpopular views, and condemn efforts to erode press freedom and public support for its vital role.”

For his part, another of its signatories, former presidential candidate and former CIA agent Evan McMullin, stated in recent months that “much of the Republican Party is threatening American democracy.”

Among the Republicans who signed and who are of public and notorious knowledge are Anthony Scaramucci, former White House Communications Director during the Trump administration; Bill Weld, former Governor of Massachusetts and former candidate for the Libertarian Party ticket; George Conway, husband of Kellyanne Conway, Donald Trump’s campaign manager in 2016.

Also included are former Republican governors Tom Ridge and Christine Todd Whitman; George W. Bush-era Transportation Secretary Mary Peters; and former House members Charlie Dent, Barbara Comstock, Reid Ribble and Mickey Edwards.

In addition, they are joined by Miles Taylor, a former official during the Bush Jr. and Trump administrations, known for allying with The New York Times to smear the Trump administration.
