Ro Khanna: another socialist who aspires to reach the Senate

Leer en Español

Ro Khanna, a member of the House of Representatives, is being pushed by socialist leaders and organizations to take Kamala Harris’ seat in the Senate. Another sign that the extreme left is doing its best to take power in the United States.

Whether Khanna will be the candidate remains to be seen. California law allows the governor to appoint a replacement to serve out the rest of Harris’ term once she resigns if she becomes vice president.

“I want to make sure I’m inclusive. I want to make sure we consider all of the views of the people,” said Governor Gavin Newsom regarding his obligation to select Harris’ replacement.

Local legislators believed to be in Newsom’s sights include Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf; Ro Khanna of Fremont; Representative Barbara Lee of Oakland and San Francisco Mayor London Breed.

Ro Khanna was an Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce during the Obama Administration. He identifies himself as a “progressive capitalist,” but is backed by the country’s most socialists. In fact, in February 2019 he was appointed national co-chairman of Bernie Sanders’ campaign. He was one of the few representatives to endorse Sanders for U.S. president in 2016. He often advocates free college education, Medicare for all, and the Green New Deal.

This Tuesday, an article published by Fox News revealed that Justice Democrats is behind Ro Khanna’s push for the nomination. It is an organization created by former Sanders leaders who seek “a Democratic majority in Congress” to supposedly create a “prosperous economy and a democracy that works for the people, not big money interests.

It is clearly a socialist organization that demonizes job creation, enterprise and the free market. In fact, the seven Justice Democrats candidates who won their congressional races in 2018 were Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“We are excited that many Democrats and progressives in California are considering Ro Khanna as a candidate for the next U.S. senator from California,” the group wrote on Twitter on Monday. “His voice in the Senate would be a great boost to our movement for justice,” it reiterated.

Ro Khanna and the socialist initiatives

The Senate candidate is one of the original sponsors of Senator Sanders’ bill to make college “affordable for all“.

Khanna has proposed a $1 trillion expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), funded by a financial transaction tax to help working families across the United States. He now supports a bill to provide “Medicare for All” in the House.

Another socialist initiative very similar to what Chavism implemented in Venezuela was the proposal that he built along with Sanders in 2018. This is the Stop BEZOS Law, which would tax companies for every dollar that employees earn in government health care benefits or food stamps.

Ro Khanna’s rationale for the legislation was that it would force corporations to increase workers’ wages or pay for the welfare programs on which their employees depend. A measure similar to that of Chavismo in Venezuela and its Organic Labor Law.

In 2018, Ro Khanna signed the proposed Green New Deal of Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. An initiative that would cost up to $600,000 per household in the United States; and that also has “dangerous” radical objectives that go beyond environmental policies.

Jarrett Stepman wrote for the Daily Signal that the Green New Deal is the Trojan horse of socialism in the United States. He points out that to meet the objectives of the “environmentalist proposal” it would be necessary to massively raise taxes, borrow and print money. “Then I would use public banks run by irresponsible bureaucrats to carry out everything.”

Despite the shortage and scarcity as socialist consequences of controlling the prices of medicines in countries with socialist regimes, Khanna would also have supported a kind of price control for the pharmaceutical industry promoted by Sanders, who in November 2018 released a bill aimed at abolishing the monopolies on pharmaceutical products.

It remains to be seen what will happen to Khanna and whether he will eventually be able to reach the Senate. From Parliament, he could seek the opportunity to propose laws that would lead to the closing of companies, the expulsion of businessmen, or the demonization of big contributors. A threat to the stability and development of the United States.
