Conservative radio host and GOP icon Rush Limbaugh died. He was 70.

His wife Kathryn announced his passing on her radio show on Wednesday, saying Limbaugh passed away this morning. “Rush will always be the greatest of all time,” she said.

Limbaugh had been battling advanced lung cancer since February last year.

The radio icon learned he had stage IV lung cancer in January 2020 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by then-President Donald Trump at the State of the Union address days later. Former First Lady Melania Trump presented America’s highest civilian honor to Limbaugh in an emotional moment immediately following his devastating cancer diagnosis.

Limbaugh hosted his program “The Rush Limbaugh Show” for 32 years. Since his diagnosis, he continued to host his show, only missing from time to time for treatment.

The host was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1993 and the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1998. He also won the National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Award for Excellence in Syndicated and Network Broadcasting five times.
