Vladimir Putin already invaded Ukraine at the slight possibility of it joining NATO, now Russia threatens Finland and Sweden with further military and political consequences if they join the alliance.
“All OSCE participating states in their national capacity, including Finland and Sweden, once reaffirmed the principle that the security of some states should not be built at the expense of the security of other countries. It is obvious that the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, which is primarily a military bloc, would have serious military and political consequences that would require our country to take reciprocal measures,” Russian foreign spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Sweden has not yet reacted to the Putin government’s threats; however, the Ukrainian president already thanked for military, technical and humanitarian assistance to continue fighting Russia.
“Sweden provides military, technical and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. I thank the Prime Minister of Sweden @SwedishPM for her effective support. let’s build an anti-Putin coalition together!”, Zelensky said.
While Putin is bombing Ukraine, Zelensky’s government assures that it wants peace and would be willing to hold talks with Russia, including the adoption of a neutral status with respect to NATO.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, declared that Moscow would be willing to hold talks with Kyiv, but only once the Ukrainian army has laid down its arms.
