SERBIAN police have banned the Pride march that was to be held next Saturday in Belgrade as the central event of EuroPride 2022, the organizer of the event said.

The organizers of the event, European Pride Organizers Associations (EPOA), assured that the march has been banned for “security” reasons in the face of “threats of counter-protests.”

“We are working with the BelgradePride team on alternative solutions,” says the note, which announces that all legal mechanisms will be used to refute the decision, which has not yet been announced by the Serbian Interior Ministry.

Kristine Garina, president of EPOA, recalled that past bans of pride marches in Belgrade were declared unconstitutional by the judiciary.

“I have no doubt that the court will take the same position again this time,” Garina said.

He indicated that Serbian PM Ana Brnabic will participate today in a conference on human rights held as part of the EuroPride 2022 program.

There, she will be asked for an explanation as to “why she has not completely fulfilled the promise of support she made in 2019 when Belgrade submitted its bid” to host EuroPride 2022.

The EuroPride 2022 week kicked off on Monday in Belgrade with the raising of the rainbow flag in front of the Serbian government headquarters.
