New York City mayor Bill De Blasio expressed his outrage after learning of the allegations of sexual harassment against Andrew Cuomo. He said that if the allegations were confirmed to be true, the governor’s actions would have been “disgusting and chilling.”

In a radio interview for Hot 97, de Blasio said it “sickens” him to think that Cuomo would have treated women as “if they were his property.”

Cuomo was accused by his former assistant, Lindsey Boylan, of orchestrating a “pervasive” culture of “sexual harassment and intimidation.” Boylan’s complaint was joined by Charlotte Bennett, who was an executive assistant and health policy adviser in the Cuomo administration until November.

“It sickened me, it sickened me,” de Blasio said of the allegations.

‘I’ve seen Cuomo be abusive before’: De Blasio

De Blasio called for a full and independent investigation and said that if the allegations against the New York governor were confirmed, Cuomo would have treated the women as “if they were his property.”

The governor has denied all the accusations. However he apologized and said he was “misunderstood” for being “playful”. In the face of this De Blasio criticized the governor’s admission that he has on occasion made bad jokes.

“Sexual harassment is not funny … Who the hell tries to explain that by saying I was just joking around?” the mayor said.

De Blasio also claimed to have seen Cuomo be “abusive” in a way that would not be accepted “by anyone in leadership.”

On Sunday, the mayor additionally called on the New York state legislature to revoke Cuomo’s emergency powers amid the scandals.

The sexual harassment scandal is the second one facing Cuomo, as the governor is also under investigation for knowingly lying about the number of elderly people who died in nursing homes after he forced those homes in the state to take in COVID-19 positive patients.
