Sidney Powell is Donald Trump’s relentless attorney handling the alleged voter fraud lawsuit in the US presidential elections. She is an appeals specialist with over 500 cases in the Fifth Circuit courts.
Powell ventured to defend Trump in this historic lawsuit that will define the Presidency of the United States. Her statements were controversial because – despite the seriousness of the case – she still does not show the evidence that would support each of his claims.
This Thursday afternoon, Sidney Powell assured in a press conference that the lawsuit for electoral fraud continues. She announced that the evidence in her possession will be shown in court. She said that the arguments are based on alleged electoral systems that modify votes, German servers that store information on the US elections, and an electoral software that was allegedly created in Venezuela “under the direction of Hugo Chavez” to extinguish the democratic elections.
“One of the most particular features (of the software) is its ability to change the votes. It can configure and run an algorithm that was probably run across the country to take a certain percentage of votes from President Trump and give them to President Biden,” Powell said at the press conference that drew the attention of both Americans and the international community. In addition, “President Trump won by a landslide, we are going to prove it,” she said.
The situation in the country is extremely polarized. On the one hand, there are those who accuse Trump and his legal defense team of “telling fictitious and conspiratorial stories,” while on the other hand there are those who blindly affirm that in the United States, Joe Biden “stole the election” with the help of the company that systematizes vote counting. Finally, there are those waiting to know the results of each lawsuit.
However controversial Sidney Powell’s statements may have been, the lawyer has extensive judicial experience. Her agreement to defend Trump’s claims puts her reputation and her career on edge.
Federal Election Commission (FEC) Chairman Trey Trainor said Tuesday he believes Trump’s attorney’s claim regarding the alleged widespread election fraud. In a tweet, Trainor called her “forthright and honest in all the cases she’s ever taken on,” adding, “If she says there is rampant voter fraud, I believe her.”
Who is Sidney Powell?
Powell served as an assistant federal prosecutor for 10 years before forming her own private law firm. She has led some 500 successful appeals with a 70% reversal rate.
Powell is also a member of the American Law Institute, as well as the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers where she served as president from 2001-2002.
The controversial attorney was, in 1979, one of the prosecutors in the trial of Jimmy Chagra, who was convicted of continuous crimes. Chagra was one of the largest drug traffickers in the United States who was implicated in the murder of U.S. District Judge John H. Wood Jr.
Another well-known case that Powell led is that of General Michael Flynn in 2019. She decided to defend him and claimed that he was being persecuted by “deep state” officials. Flynn was Trump’s first national security advisor and was investigated as part of Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russia.
After appointing Powell as his attorney, Flynn tried to withdraw his plea. Her case was finally dropped by the Justice Department in May, prompting charges of favoritism against Attorney General Bill Barr.
What will happen to the legal battle that President Trump started with Powell and Rudy Giuliani remains to be seen. They seem convinced that they can win the fight in court but there is still no clear evidence of the massive fraud that would change the course of the country and reverse the eventual nomination of Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.
