Members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) traveled to Venezuela to meet with the tyrant Nicolás Maduro, who is a fugitive from American justice and faces international sanctions.

DSA is the largest left-wing political organization in the United States. It is made up of Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, are also members of the ultra-left “squad” in the House of Representatives, which has advocated radical measures ranging from the Green New Deal to the defunding of the police.

The DSA delegation that traveled to Venezuela included the chairman of the National Political Committee, members of the International Committee, and members of the organization’s Political Training, Foreign Policy, and Bilateral Relations sections.

It is unknown whether the Maduro regime also funded the American socialists’ trip to Venezuela, as they launched a GoFundMe campaign on May 16, which raised only $5,200.

Had they received any payment or funding from the regime, the DSA members could face charges of violating U.S. sanctions that prevent any American citizen from doing business with Venezuela’s tyranny.

The United States is currently offering a $15 million reward for the capture of Nicolás Maduro after charging him with criminal drug trafficking offenses.

While the American socialists were in the South American country, the Maduro regime intensified the persecution against dissidents; such is the case of the arrest of Javier Tarazona, director of the NGO FundaRedes, which has focused on exposing the relationship between the tyranny and terrorist groups in the region.

So far, neither of the DSA members in Venezuela, Rashida Tlaib, nor Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have denounced the violation of human rights by the socialist regime in Venezuela; on the contrary, they have decided to legitimize it.

The DSA’s support for Maduro is not new. In 2016, the organization issued a statement of solidarity with the regime and called on then-President Barack Obama to end all sanctions against it.
