Zabihullah Mujahid is a Taliban regime spokesman who recently tweeted an update on “military units” entering Kabul. He wrote on Twitter that their “advance continues normally.” Despite these messages, the company has not enforced the regulatory policies with which it has censored conservatives.
Although Mujahid’s profile is unverified, he has at least 280,000 followers and is quoted by major media outlets. That Mujahid remains on social media has been criticized by conservative voices, who recalled that President Donald Trump was censored from the platform for his political positions.
For example, French politician Jerome Riviere asserted that democracy and freedom are at risk when people like Trump are censored, but messages like those of Zabihullah Mujahid are allowed.
“Freedom and democracy are not doing well when #Twitter continues to ban #Trump’s account, but relays the #Taliban spokesman without any second thoughts,” Riviere wrote on Twitter.
In a video message released today, Mullah Baradar Akhund, head of the insurgents’ political office in Qatar, declared the end of the Afghan war, and with them the beginning of the “time of test” to prove they can serve the country well.
