In the midst of the immigration crisis, Joe Biden’s administration prevents the media from accessing migrant care centers. In response, Republican senator Ted Cruz asked the Democratic administration to allow the press to enter the border facilities.
Cruz posted a video on Twitter on Sunday in which an official prevents him from recording and recording the conditions in which migrant children live.
The video shows a facility crowded with children locked up wrapped in thermal blankets and without complying with health protocols for the coronavirus.
“Please give dignity to these people, please respect the people,” an official said. “Is this dignity and respect? Look at these people, there’s a pandemic” Cruz replied.
According to Fox News, Cruz, after publishing the video, sent a letter to President Biden to open access to the border facilities to the media.
Covering up the reality
The Republican senator wrote to the President after he and 18 other senators were prohibited from filming the situation.
“We understand the heartbreaking tragedy unfolding at the border because we were there. We saw it. But the American people are unable to see it because you remain intent on keeping the media from shining a light on your administration’s failures,” Cruz said in the missive.
The senator describes how the population in the United States is unaware of the reality of the migrant care centers because the Biden administration, according to him, decided to hide it.
“They could not show the American people what it looks like when a tent city that was built to house 250 children under COVID restrictions instead of housing 4,200,” Cruz said.
“They could not show the American people cages after cages of little boys lying side-by-side, of little girls lying side-by-side, covered with reflective emergency blankets with virtually no space between them. They could not show the playpen of infants and toddlers brought here by human traffickers,” he reiterated.
“The reporters the and cameras could not see any of this because you, President Biden, prevented it. I sent you a letter last week urging you to allow us to bring in the media with us. Not only did you refuse, you actively worked to prevent the American public from seeing what we saw,” the senator charged.
It remains to be seen whether the Democratic government will respond to the senator’s requests, especially after images of the immigration crisis at the border were leaked as the days went by.
As of March 25, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had 5,156 minors in its custody, in addition to having transferred 437 to other spaces.
