Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the Biden-Harris administration Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas for denying to take into custody criminal undocumented immigrants who seek to cross the border. This was stated by the AG’s office, which also detailed that the group includes dangerous criminals and drug manufacturers.
Paxton said that the measures of the Democratic administration only deepen the crisis at the border and that it is necessary to comply with law and order, as required by the Constitution. Likewise, he warned that the safety of Texas Americans is affected by the government’s measures.
“President Biden’s outright refusal to enforce the law is exacerbating an unprecedented border crisis. By failing to take custody of criminal aliens and giving no explanation for this reckless policy change, the Biden Administration is demonstrating a blatant disregard for Texans’ and Americans’ safety,” the Texas AG said in a statement.
The Texas AG criticism
The Texas AG continued his criticism of Biden’s handling of the border crisis, claiming the Biden-Harris administration is responsible for the current humanitarian crisis:
Likewise, Paxton’s office indicated that when arrests are made, the entire process established by law is complied with. This is so that immigration authorities can evaluate each case accordingly. However, he explained, due to Biden’s position, ICE has not complied with the steps.
“Currently, when the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) incarcerates a subject who has entered the country illegally and is already convicted of a felony criminal offense, it is required to inform U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). If that person is to be deported when their sentence expires, ICE can send TDCJ a detainer request, which will then hold the person instead of releasing them into the community,” according to KVUE, a local ABC affiliate.
The Texas AG added that “After the Biden administration memos, ICE rescinded several detainer requests, leaving it to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to release criminals.”
For months now, the Biden-Harris administration has been facing a border crisis the likes of which the U.S. has not seen in more than 20 years. In fact, during Donald Trump’s administration, the lowest percentage of illegal migration in the last 75 years was recorded.
