Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law a bill that bans abortion when a fetal heartbeat can be detected. The measure specifically states that the ban begins after 6 weeks of pregnancy.

Likewise, the law allows citizens to denounce any person or institution that provides abortion services during this period. The decision was celebrated by different pro-life organizations.

“Thank you for leading on Life to protect all babies with a detectable heartbeat,” wrote Texas Right to Life on social media.

The governor referred to the law on Twitter and argued that it is a way to save the lives of children in the state. He also thanked the Republican representatives who pushed for and made it possible to pass the resolution.

“This bill ensures that the life of every unborn child with a heartbeat will be saved from the ravages of abortion,” said Abbott.
