Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Wednesday that he sent the first group of illegal immigrants to Chicago. The move is part of the governor’s decision to send buses with migrants to Democratic cities that defend illegal migration.
Abbott argued that Joe Biden’s immigration policy is hurting Americans. “Biden’s inaction at our border puts Texans at risk & is overwhelming our communities,” Abbott wrote in a statement on Twitter.

The Republican explained that he will continue to send illegal migrants to Democratic cities, until the federal government takes action to address the immigration crisis. “We’ll continue bussing migrants to sanctuary cities like NYC, DC, and now Chicago until the federal gov’t does its job and secures the border,” Abbott highlighted.
He highlighted that he looks forward to seeing Mayor Lori Lightfoot welcome the migrants. “Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”
Texas governor on migrants
For weeks now, Governor Abbott has been sending buses with illegal migrants to other cities and has criticized how Democrats have talked about open borders, but failed to embrace the consequences of the measure. Last week, the governor dedicated a column to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, claiming that the Democratic mayor is just “lip service” when it comes to open borders.
In addition, Abbott accused Adams of lying about how Texas has treated the migrants he sends to those cities.
“Adams’ fabricated claims about Texas’ treatment of migrants have no basis in reality. To be clear, any migrant boarding a bus from Texas to New York has signed an agreement to be transported to the city. All are provided food and water for the entire trip,” the governor said in a letter published by the New York Post.
