Texas had zero COVID-19 deaths on Sunday. The information was released by the governor of the state, Republican Greg Abbott. The health situation occurs despite the fact that the state lifted all restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus and after a successful vaccination day.

“0 Covid related deaths–the only time that’s happened since data was tracked in March, 2020,” Abbott wrote on Twitter.

Similarly, the Republican explained that they also achieved the lowest 7-day COVID-19 positivity rate since the advent of the pandemic as well as hospitalizations which dropped to the lowest number in 11 months.

Zero Covid-19 deaths and zero restrictions

Two months ago, President Biden criticized Governor Abbott for lifting the restrictions. At the time, the president mocked the state’s reopening strategy and called them “Neanderthal thinking.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott reversed the order on mandatory use of the masks in March. He also lifted all operating restrictions on restaurants and bars that had been imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“It’s time to reopen Texas at 100 percent,” he said in an address from Lubbock, one of the counties where the disease grew the fastest while running out of hospital beds.

“I also ended the statewide mask mandate,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
