As the crisis on the country’s southern border worsens, the Biden administration is destroying the immigration system by weakening our current policy, as he begins to lose support for his disastrous open borders policy.

A Rasmussen Reports study reveals that public support is shifting away from Biden and the Democratic Party on immigration. In fact, American support for the control of our immigration is increasing, the report shows.

The ten-question survey on immigration conducted over a period of months and the graphs displayed by National Review show how Americans were changing their minds. From strongly backing Biden, they are now in favor of increased border control.

According to Steven Camarota, research director of the Center for Immigration Studies, responses had been generally stable until late last year, when they began to shift sharply in favor of more border enforcement, opposition to amnesty and less legal immigration.

Camarota notes that “a much larger proportion of the public now thinks we should do more to stop illegal immigration.”

As a candidate, Biden promised that his administration would decrease the enforcement of our immigration laws, ultimately increasing legal immigration and providing a path to citizenship to millions of undocumented immigrants.

His “open borders” policy, which he described as compassionate, has led to a record increase in immigrants and children abandoned at the border. Added to this is the increase in human trafficking controlled by drug cartels and other criminal organizations.

The centerpiece of the Biden administration’s legislative efforts on immigration is the proposed United States Citizenship Act of 2021, which would grant amnesty to all unlawful immigrants, reduce border and immigration enforcement, and significantly increase legal immigration. It remains to be seen whether the president will receive the full support of his party, considering that some Democratic lawmakers have already called the increase in migrants an “unprecedented humanitarian crisis.”

According to administration officials, nearly 30% of the migrants apprehended at the border had already attempted to cross.

As a result of Biden’s open borders policy, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detected more than 172,000 people attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in March, a 71% increase over February.

While most of the people at the border are single adults, who are being turned away under the Public Health Act, CBP detained a record number of unaccompanied migrant minors in March: 18,890, nearly double the number in February.

The U.S. immigration system “is broken” due to the open borders policy

A report in The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) revealed that Biden’s open borders policies caused Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to focus on looking for illegal migrants who have recently crossed the border. As a result, deportation and apprehension numbers have declined.

According to immigration law, anyone who is in the country without legal status can be deported, but under the Biden-Harris administration this regulation is not enforced and, on the contrary, priorities were established on who can or cannot be detained.

According to the WSJ, for the Democratic administration, if an illegal immigrant has only committed “minor offenses,” he or she does not deserve to be deported or detained unless he or she meets the new guidelines of having recently entered.

ICE officials have the exclusive directive to detain recent illegal crossers and those they consider “national security threats”. If they wanted to detain someone outside of that guideline, they must request prior written approval from senior ICE officials.

This whole situation highlights how the U.S. immigration system has been broken and trampled, where it now selects at will which serious crimes merit detention and which “minor” crimes do not merit apprehension.

“The statistics in the article suggest that the Biden administration is simply trying its non-deportation policy by other means, add bureaucracy, increase red tape, modify the rules,” David Grantham, national security and counterterrorism expert on border crises, explained to El American.

“For example, fewer people will be deported when an intentionally vague rubric is used, which will likely become a moving target, such as “serious criminal record” to determine who has to leave. One could argue that the immigration system is so broken that it can be manipulated by those who come to the border and those in government,” he charged.

“Now they are coming in in a coordinated fashion, trained to apply for asylum because it will probably get them in with a court date. About 90 percent of the people don’t show up for that court date and stay in the United States. This time it’s different because they know better how to successfully manipulate the system,” he said.

Grantham’s statements are in line with those of Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, who issued a lawsuit against the Biden-Harris administration.

“It’s really gutting our immigration laws and it’s part of a radical agenda of the Biden administration,” Brnovich said to the WSJ.

Biden lawsuit over environmental impact after surge of migrants

This Monday, April 12, it was learned that Brnovich sued the Biden administration for halting the construction of the border wall and ending the program known as Permanecer en México (Stay in Mexico), ultimately opting for open borders.

The prosecutor argues that the Department of Homeland Security failed to provide environmental impact statements when it abruptly halted the construction of the border wall. He points out that these decisions increase the flow of migrants and, therefore, increase the population, stating in the lawsuit that “population growth has significant environmental impacts”.

The prosecutor considers that the current administration has not taken into account the housing, infrastructure, hospitals, and school needs of these migrants and the impact it will have on the environment.
