A Fox News article revealed that a Georgia group founded by former Democratic Congresswoman Stacey Abrams is under investigation for attempting to register dead voters and outside the state’people living outside the state in order to participate in the runoff election where the Senate majority is at stake.
According to the communications network, “Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has initiated investigations into several groups, including one founded by former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, for trying to “aggressively” register “ineligible, out-of-state, or deceased voters” prior to the January 5th state Senate elections.
This new development is linked to an earlier news story, also broadcast on Fox News, which states that the office of Raffensperger, who is a Republican, has 250 open investigations into “credible allegations of illegal voting” and violations of Election Law. These open investigations are divided among 23 investigators.
According to the latest information, Raffensperger said Wednesday that his office received “specific evidence that these groups have requested voter registrations of ineligible individuals who have died or live out of state. This, of course, poses a risk to voter security in the state of Georgia.
It is worth noting that the two contested seats in Georgia are vitally important, because if the Democrats manage to match the seats in the Upper House with the Republicans, a Joe Biden administration would have fewer obstacles to carrying out reforms or policies without a direct counterbalancing force.
Former Democratic Congresswoman Stacey Abrams’ ties to groups under scrutiny in Georgia
Democrat Stacey Abrams was the founder of one of the groups investigated by the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.
The organizations under scrutiny are three: America Votes, Vote Forward, and The New Georgia Project, the latter founded by Abrams and previously chaired by Democratic Senate candidate Raphael Warnock, according to Fox News.
This Wednesday Raffensperger was forceful in warning about attempts to undermine election security in Georgia: “I have issued several clear warnings to groups and individuals working to undermine the integrity of Georgia’s elections through false and fraudulent registrations (…) The security of Georgia’s elections is of paramount importance”.
Abrams Stacey has been one of the most dedicated Democrats during the presidential and senatorial elections in the state of Georgia. An article on CNN —one of the most Democratic Party-friendly media— highlights her as follows: “President-elect Joe Biden is the first Democratic presidential candidate to win in Georgia in 28 years. And much of the credit for his performance here goes to someone who was not on the ballot: Stacey Abrams.
In the same piece, Nsé Ufot, CEO of the New Georgia Project, also highlights the former congresswoman’s performance: “Stacey has worked tirelessly for Joe Biden and the DNC to pay attention to Georgia and has spent years organizing and strategizing to ensure that Georgians have a voice at the polls.
That the New Georgia Project is under investigation may be a stain on Democrats in Georgia, especially if the irregularities reported by the Secretary of State are verified or detected.
About America Votes, Brad Raffensperger said that “it’s sending absentee ballot applications to people at addresses where they haven’t lived since 1994.
On the other hand, the Secretary of State said about Vote Forward that they tried to “register a dead Alabama voter to vote here in Georgia. And finally, on the New Georgia Project —the one linked to Stacey Abrams and the Democratic candidate for the Senate, Raphael Warnock— it was mentioned that they sent “voter registration applications to New York City.
