The Idiot of the Week: Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo, El American

This time, El American’s Idiot of the Week award goes to Olivia Rodrigo, the new pop star, unique, special and socially committed, like all the Disney girls who have come off the mouse company’s assembly line.

In an interview for V Magazine, the new pop sensation for teens and prepubescents, Olivia Rodrigo mournfully tells us that she grew up thinking that being a pop star was something reserved for “white girls.” Born in California to an American mother and a father of Filipino descent, Olivia couldn’t seem to conceive that she — half-Filipina and not all white and blonde — could make it in the music world.

In fact, in a previous interview for The Guardian last May, she had already said that “it’s hard for anyone to grow up in this media where it feels like if you don’t have European features and blond hair and blue eyes, you’re not traditionally pretty. I felt that a lot -– since I don’t look exactly like the girl next door in all these movies, I’m not attractive..”

In other words, it was not an oversight resulting from the nerves of the interview, but that she is a repeat offender and truly believes it. We don’t know what world Olivia Rodrigo has lived in, but saying this is as much as saying that it is impossible to succeed in the NBA if you are not white.

Olivia Rodrigo, born in 2003, must have grown up in a bunker where her captors only played music by Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani. Perhaps they also played Lili Marlen’s song performed by Marlene Dietrich on loop, to make her believe that we live in a sort of dystopian movie without pop singers who are not of pure Aryan blood.

Olivia Rodrigo, at 18, seems to know everything about music, relationships, politics and medicine — she is part of a White House campaign to promote mass vaccination among young people — and yet she hasn’t noticed Beyoncé, Rihanna or Alicia Keys.

In the interview, she also asserted that “there’s this pressure for young women in pop music. And it’s like this thing where you’re only successful if you’re under 30.” This makes us think that she has never listened to Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Mariah Carey or Diana Ross.

Well, maybe she has heard all those artists, but she hasn’t seen them, and those who held her in the bunker showed her pictures of blonde girls with blue eyes and white complexion, passing them off as the singers. Although we rather suspect that her musical tastes and knowledge are not much broader than those of the majority of her teenage fan base.

Olivia Rodrigo and the parallel world created by the media

Although what Olivia Rodrigo said is idiotic, perhaps we should not laugh at her and joke about the bunker. In a way, she and an entire generation have lived in a kind of ideological bunker, where they have been led to believe that any minority person is an eternal and irredeemable victim, while any white person is necessarily an executioner and privileged.

She probably really believes her words, and there are probably millions of teenagers — and adults — nodding their heads as they listen to her complaint about how hard it is to succeed in life if you are not white. Even though there are thousands of examples to the contrary, and even though she herself represents just the opposite of what she complains about. Leftist ideology, the media and Big Tech have managed to create this sort of Matrix, a parallel reality that you blindly believe in regardless of what your eyes see.

Olivia is not a victim of supposed systemic racism or white privilege. She is a victim of progressive indoctrination that has made her believe that her triumph is an exception and practically a fluke.

It would be better if stars like Olivia Rodrigo would stop dabbling in politics with these kinds of comments that serve nothing more than to prop up the false leftist narrative and stick to listening to more diverse music. No doubt her positioning will win her several Grammys in the future, but for now, she holds El American’s Idiot of the Week award.

  1. Perhaps next year’s grammys and osccars we all should form a huge team (like that of the January 6, 2021 DC storming) and storm the event violently while overturning the results of the awards.
I know it sounds insane after what happened on that fateful day but it would be hilarious as fuck to do so we can see who actually should be the grand breadwinner of the awards not some movie that was force fed with diversity and inclusion but with a “natural law” of casting, not forced.
Next winter we all shall storm LA!
