The Treasury Department announced on Wednesday a total blockade of the two main Russian banks and sanctions against the two daughters of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, after the massacre perpetrated in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, where hundreds of civilians were found dead after the withdrawal of Kremlin troops.
A senior Biden official explained in a call with journalists the total blockade of Sberbank and Alfa Bank, the largest financial institutions in the country, which will not be able to make transactions with the United States in any currency.
In addition, Putin’s two daughters, Katerina Tikhonova and Maria Vorontsova, as well as the wife and daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, were sanctioned.
