Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that attorneys David Schoen and Bruce L. Castor will lead his defense in the impeachment trial that he will be subjected to by the Democrats in mid-February in Congress.

“Both agree that this impeachment trial is unconstitutional, as 45 senators ruled last week,” says a statement from the “Office of the 45th President.”

This office was created after Trump left the Presidency last January 20th and settled in Mar-a-Lago, his mansion and private club in Palm Beach (South Florida).

Schoen and Castor will bring to the legal team “significant trial experience in high-profile cases,” the statement added.

Schoen, who has already worked with the former president and his advisors in the preparation of the process derived from the takeover of Congress on January 6th, said it is an “honor” to represent “the 45th President and the Constitution of the United States,” while Castor defined it as a “privilege.”

“The strength of our Constitution is going to be tested as never before in our history. It is strong and resilient. A document written to stand the test of time that will triumph over partisanship once again and forever,” Castor said.

Trump is the first president to be impeached twice, in the first, held in 2019, he was tried on two counts of alleged pressure on Ukraine, of which he was acquitted.

The second impeachment seems likely to have the same outcome as the first.
