Former President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that General Mark Milley, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, should be tried for treason after it was revealed that he had calls with his Chinese counterpart Li Zuocheng in which he told him that he would give notice if they decided on an eventual attack on China.

The story broke in a review in The Washington Post of the new book titled “Peril,” written by journalist Bob Woodward and newspaper reporter Robert Costa.

“If the story of ‘Dumbass’ General Mark Milley, the same failed leader who engineered the worst withdrawal from a country, Afghanistan, in U.S. history, leaving behind many dead and wounded soldiers, many American citizens, and $85 Billion worth of the newest and most sophisticated Military equipment in the world, and our Country’s reputation, is true, then I assume he would be tried for TREASON in that he would have been dealing with his Chinese counterpart behind the President’s back and telling China that he would be giving them notification ‘of an attack.’ Trump said in a statement.

In addition, the former president assured that it was never in his plans to attack China and that this story was created by a group of people made up of “a weak and ineffective General together with two authors who I refused to give an interview to because they write fiction, not fact”.

It was also known that a second call was made during the events that took place in the Capitol on January 6. Milley called the Chinese general “to respond to Chinese fears about the events.” “We are 100 percent calm. Everything is going well. But democracy can be neglected at times,” Milley told Li. According to the book’s authors, Trump would have been upset after losing the election and Milley was worried that the former president might “rebel.”

Finally, the Republican took the opportunity to criticize General Milley for his handling of the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. He also said that actions should be taken to prevent a crisis like the one generated by the withdrawal from Afghan territory from happening again.
