Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that Dr. Mehmet Oz, the candidate he is backing for the Republican Senate primary in Pennsylvania, is “the only one who will be able” of defeating the “crazed, lunatic democrat” left in the November midterms.

In a statement, former President Trump said candidate Kathy Barnette, who is emerging among the frontrunners in his state’s Republican primary, “will never be able to win the General Election against the radical left” of the Democratic Party.

“She has many things in her past which have not been properly explained or vetted, but if she is able to do so, she will have a wonderful future in the Republican Party — and I will be behind her all the way,” Trump said of Barnette.

His view of Dr. Oz, on the other hand, is radically opposite. The former president believes it is possible for Oz to secure a victory in the Senate.

“Dr. Oz is the only one who will be able to easily defeat the Crazed, Lunatic Democrat in Pennsylvania,” Trump continued in the statement. “A vote for anyone else in the Primary is a vote against Victory in the Fall!”

Trump endorsed Oz last month, saying he “has always been popular, respected and smart” and that his candidacy would help “stop the Radical Left maniacs.”

However, one of his former teammates, former NFL player Jack Brewer, endorsed Barnette and said Trump “got this one wrong” when he named Oz as his favorite since he “does not represent American Christian principles that this nation was founded on.”

A recent Trafalgar Group poll showed Dr. Oz as the frontrunner, ahead of Barnette by just over one percentage point.
