Trump Raided As Hunter Vacations and Paul Pelosi Gets Off Scot-free

Leer en Español

Last Monday, the FBI raided Donald Trump’s residence in Florida. The operation lasted 9 hours, with 30 agents involved, and the DOJ invoked the Presidential Records Act. However, while Mar-a-Lago was searched from top to bottom, Twitter users spotlight Hunter Biden going on a pleasant vacation to South Carolina.

The raid marked the end of a historic streak, as it was the first time the FBI raided the home of a former president. According to The New York Times, such a mission took place because “Mr. Trump delayed returning 15 boxes of material requested by officials with the National Archives for many months, only doing so when they became a threat of action to retrieve them”, a situation not foreign to other former heads of state.

Trump was raided, and Hunter Biden is on vacation

Since Joe Biden took office, many Republicans have anticipated a politicization of the DOJ, in this case, headed by Merrick Garland.

Indeed, the most striking case is that of Hunter Biden, son of the current Commander in Chief. The laptop abandoned in Delaware, his shady business dealings abroad, the alleged tax problems, the use of his father’s image to get involved in international companies, and the controversial videos consuming prohibited substances and with prostitutes have left many wondering. Even failing to understand, how is it that he has not yet been indicted? Senator Ted Cruz seems to have the answer to this question.

“Hunter Biden, I mean, this guy, how many films has he made of himself committing multiple felonies? If you put out a film with you with a pile of crack and prostitutes,  somebody would come knocking on your door, and they would prosecute you. But if daddy lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, apparently the criminal laws do not apply”, commented the legislator in an interview with Fox News.

As for the DOJ’s “double standard” in choosing who to prosecute and who not to prosecute, the Texan said that “it is deeply uh corrosive to our system of justice when DOJ and the FBI are treated as partisan arms rather than non-partial apolitical enforcers of law.”

Republicans have already indicated that, should they regain the majority in the House of Representatives, they plan to launch new investigations and hold hearings to examine the conduct of Hunter and other members of the Biden family.

The Pelosi family is no slouch either

Another case that is at least striking is that of Paul Pelosi, husband of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. The businessman has come under the spotlight recently due to the questions raised by his unique understanding of buying stocks.

Last March 21st, Paul Pelosi executed several call options on Amazon shares, which closed at a value of $3,259.05 that day. So far, it all seems like business as usual, but just six weeks later, a government announcement boosted the price of those same shares.

The Pentagon announced that it had rejected a $10 billion contract with Microsoft to establish a cloud computing service for the agency: the Joint Defense Infrastructure (JEDI) platform. Amazon had also competed for the bid in 2019 and became a contender for the contract.

As a result of the announcement, both the shares of the company— founded by Jeff Bezos— and Paul Pelosi’s pocket grew in size.

This was not the only episode involving Nancy Pelosi’s husband, given that, last May 21st, Paul Pelosi invested up to $6 million in shares of the group of companies known as FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google/Alphabet).

Not even a month later, on June 11th, the House Judiciary Committee brought forward several bills that would regulate the market power of technology companies, adding a dash of volatility to the stock price of these companies.

In this regard, Craig Holman of the think tank Public Citizen said that “it certainly raises the specter that Paul Pelosi could have access to some insider legislative information.” Nancy Pelosi’s team assured Fox News that the Speaker had no prior knowledge of these actions.

So, under the leadership of Joe Biden and Merrick Garland, the DOJ would appear to have some bias in assessing what is worthy of prosecution.
