Former President Trump said that days before the riots at the Capitol he had personally requested the deployment of 10,000 National Guard troops.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said he alerted the Department of Defense that the crowd could be larger than expected. His concern, he said, would have been passed on to Capitol Hill leaders, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Trump claimed his proposal was dismissed because congressional leaders “didn’t like the optics of 10,000 troops on Capitol Hill.”

“So, you know, that was a big mistake,” Trump indicated while noting that he “hated” to see what happened on Jan. 6.

According to the Daily Caller, former Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving said the House speaker and her office influenced a decision making about the security of the building and those in it.

Senator Lindsey Graham, said in recent days that he favors the creation of a 9/11-style commission to examine the factors that contributed to the riots.

The evidence, Republicans say, could show that Democrats were aware of the threat and did not intervene to prevent the attack.
