Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday recommended Americans to vaccinate against COVID-19.

“I recommend it (the vaccination), and I recommend it to a lot of people who don’t want to get vaccinated, and a lot of those people voted for me to be honest,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News.

Trump and his wife, former first lady Melania Trump, were vaccinated against COVID-19 before leaving office, although they did not make it public at the time.

In interview, Trump said the vaccine “is good, it’s safe and it’s something that works.”

“But, again, we have our freedoms and we have to live with it and I support that as well,” Trump said, referring to people who have chosen not to get vaccinated.

A recent CBS News poll indicated that 34% of Republican voters have no intention of getting vaccinated and 24% are still weighing it, while among Democrats just 10% do not want the vaccine and 20% are still undecided.

In the United States, some 72.1 million people (21.7% of the population) have received at least one dose of Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson&Johnson vaccines, of whom 39 million (11.8%) are already fully inoculated.

Most of the states with a smaller number of vaccinated population are southern and traditional Republican fiefdoms such as Georgia itself, Alabama, Tennessee or Texas.
