Former President Donald Trump warned that the Republican Party will never again succeed by keeping Senator Mitch McConnell at the helm.
“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Senator Mitch McConnell at its helm. If McConnell remains at the head of the caucus, Republicans will never win again,” he said in a statement.
He also predicted a civil war within the GOP and blamed him for the electoral defeats.
“McConnell’s dedication to business-as-usual, status quo policies, together with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill and personality, has quickly taken him from majority leader to minority leader, and it will only get worse,” he said.
The frontal attack follows the Senate Minority Leader statement saying that Trump was to blame for the violence that engulfed Capitol Hill last month.
“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again,” Trump emphasized.
He added: “He will never do what is necessary, or what is right for our country. Where necessary and appropriate, I will support primary opponents who stand for Making America Great Again and our America First policy.”
The rift between Trump and McConnell began in the weeks after the Nov. 3rd presidential election because the senator recognized Democrat Joe Biden as the winner.
