Former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard criticized the Biden administration on Sunday for promoting puberty blockers to minors. She asserted that this is “child abuse” and insisted that it is a health risk for children.
“Puberty-blocking procedures promoted by the Biden/Harris Admin are child abuse. The FDA has just confirmed these hormones/drugs have extremely dangerous side effects, like brain swelling and vision loss,” Gabbard said in a video she posted on Twitter.

Gabbard’s comments come at a time when Joe Biden’s administration is pushing the use of these drugs in minors. For example, Biden’s deputy health secretary, Rachel Levine, said during an interview with MSNBC that children should be “empowered” to take puberty blockers.
FDA on puberty blockers
According to a report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the FDA identified six cases of idiopathic intracranial hypertension in girls between the ages of 5 and 12 who were taking hormone blockers, and established that the association between the drug and the condition is “plausible.”
An FDA spokesperson said that AbbVie biopharmaceuticals, which markets one of the best-known puberty blockers (Lupron), identified several publications describing the development of brain pseudotumor in children with central precocious puberty who had been treated with GnRH agonist drugs.
