“We’re testing a feature for you to report Tweets that seem misleading.” This was reported by Twitter to announce that users will now be able to report messages they believe contain unreliable information.

Citizens of the United States, South Korea and Australia can from now on select the “is misleading” option after hitting the “flag tweet” option. “We’re assessing if this is an effective approach so we’re starting small,” the company said.

The measure was criticized by users. The message with the announcement received at least 4,000 quoted tweets, many of them questioning the decision. In fact, the Daily Caller was sarcastic and recalled when Twitter censored the story of Hunter Biden and his laptop, which involved corruption.

“And Twitter rehearsing new ways of censorship. I suspect there are three and a half minutes left before the progressives start blocking accounts that denounce Taliban atrocities,” commented Spanish journalist Luis Del Pino.

Twitter’s restrictions

Twitter, Facebook and YouTube have been criticized before for pushing content censorship. For example, since Donald Trump left the U.S. Presidency, he has been censored by Big Tech. But the regulations, too, have extended to ordinary users.

In that sense, since March its users can be banned after five warnings because the company considers that they spread misinformation related to Covid-19 vaccines.

According to the AFP news agency, this system of regulations is inspired by the one carried out during the elections, which allowed Twitter to block and censor Trump. This type of measure taken by Big Tech has been denounced by several conservative voices.

In fact, in October last year, the Republican senator for the state of Texas, Ted Cruz did not hesitate to strongly question Jack Dorsey, owner of Twitter, during his appearance before the Senate.

“Mr. Dorsey, who the hell elected you and who put you in charge of what the media are allowed to report and what the American people are allowed to hear?, And why do you persist in behaving as a Democratic super PAC, silencing views to the contrary of your political beliefs?” questioned Cruz.
