Twitter will lay off nearly 50% of the staff this Friday

After the arrival of Elon Musk exactly a week ago as a CEO of Twitter, the wave of changes at the Big Tech Company has taken on a dizzying pace, especially in the last 48 hours.

With news such as the possibility of charging 8 dollars for verification, the total dissolution of the board of directors, the rumours of the eventual return of controversial figures such as Donald Trump, Kanye West or Alex Jones and the elimination of internal policies such as “Work from anywhere”, Musk has not stopped trending for 7 continuous days and nothing seems to indicate that it will stop in the near future.

According to a report from Kurt Wagner, a Bloomberg journalist, Musk plans to cut 3,700 jobs this Friday, November 4, which represents nearly 50% of the company’s full payroll.

In addition to this information, Casey Newton, a contributor to the New York Times, reported that through some leaked Slack chat screenshots, Twitter employees told him that the communication via email for those affected was scheduled for this Friday, Nov. 4th at 9:00 AM PT (San Francisco Time, CA); according to a corporate email received at 5:21 p.m. on Thursday.

The communication also indicated that the company would close its doors this Friday while the layoffs are carried out, asking its employees to keep this information confidential and to go home.

Newton added as an anecdote that Twitter employees would be calling the email “The Snap”, alluding to the character of Thanos from the Marvel saga, The Avengers, and that they shared memes alluding to the same character through slack chats.

The conversation on the subject was joined via Twitter by Bloomberg reporter Sarah Fryer, who added that in addition to the layoffs, it was a fact that the charge for verification on Twitter would begin to take effect from next Monday, November 7.

It seems that the changes will continue on Twitter and comments for or against Musk’s managerial actions will continue to flood the social network’s trends in the upcoming days.
