London, 10 Dec (EFE).

The UK government announced today that it will impose sanctions against several “security” officials responsible for the tyranny of Nicolás Maduro, as well as other “politicians” and “officials” from Russia, Gambia and Pakistan, whom it considers responsible for violating human rights.

London will apply -to a total of ten individuals and one organization- punishments that include asset freezes and travel bans, among other measures.

“In Venezuela, sanctions will be imposed on senior security officials in the illegitimate Maduro regime, responsible for human rights violations,” the British Foreign Office described in a statement.

The Foreign Office stresses that its sanctions come shortly after the “deeply fraudulent elections to the Venezuelan National Assembly” last Sunday.

Regarding Russia, the sanctions will be applied to three individuals and to Terek’s Special Rapid Response Team, which it considers responsible for torture and other abuses in the Chechen Republic.

“The United Kingdom will globally defend democracy, human rights and the rule of law as a force for good in the world,” stressed Foreign Minister Dominic Raab.

The head of British diplomacy emphasized that his government is committed to “defending the victims of human rights violations and abuses around the world.
