The United States announced on Sunday sanctions against 27 managers of Russia’s Gazprombank, which is the main channel used by European Union (EU) member states to buy gas from Russia.
The sanctions serve as a “warning” to Gazprombank, although they are not directed against the bank itself, but against its managers, so European countries will still be able to use it to trade with Russia, a senior official told reporters.
The announcement comes as a result of a virtual meeting of G7 leaders on Sunday, which was addressed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
