The United States has begun to deport undocumented immigrants who are detained at the border between the two countries on flights into inner Mexico, as a way to prevent their re-entry.
This was confirmed this Tuesday by White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki, who indicated that this measure seeks to reduce the possibility that the deported people will try to reenter the U.S. territory.
Psaki explained that since last Friday the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in charge of protecting the borders and the immigration system, began to transfer families expelled under Title 42 to the interior of Mexico.
That rule was implemented during the administration of now former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent the spread of the corovanirus pandemic and extended by Gov. Joe Biden, who came to the White House last January.
Under this regulation, people who enter the country irregularly may be expelled almost immediately to Mexican territory.
The spokeswoman also indicated that the immigrants subject to this rule are being transferred from one part of the border to another, where there could be “more processing capacity” or to install them before their expulsion.
Similarly, said Psaki, the Biden administration has implemented the expedited removal of those immigrants who enter the country without documents and do not apply for international protection or asylum.
The United States has toughened measures on the border with Mexico, which, despite being closed due to the pandemic, continues to be crossed by thousands of undocumented immigrants.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) figures, authorities apprehended 188,829 undocumented immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border last June, bringing to 1,119,204 the number of arrivals in the current fiscal year, since October 2020.
It’s about time. But, gosh, I feel sorry for the legitimate families, and especially the children, that are fleeing horrid conditions. Still, unfortunately for them, one must go through the legal process. When my family and I lived in England, and also when I lived in Italy, and as much as I enjoyed it as a black woman, experiencing no prejudice, had we/I stayed illegally they would’ve had every right to jail us/me deport. God help them, especially women and children who’re being trafficked.
