The Department of Labor on Tuesday submitted to the White House the first draft of Joe Biden’s plan to enforce a mandatory vaccination mandate for private-sector workers, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The vaccination mandate would be implemented under a federal regulation known as the Temporary Emergency Standard (TES) and would affect approximately 80 million workers nationwide, according to Biden-Harris administration estimates, representing more than half of the total U.S. workforce.
This was stated in the COVID-19 plan released by the White House last month, which indicates that the vaccination mandate will apply to businesses with 100 or more employees.
The protocol will force employers to punish employees who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit a negative PCR test on a weekly basis.
The information comes a day after Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order banning businesses and other private entities in his state from requiring vaccination for employees.
