Catalina Lauf won the House GOP nomination for Illinois’ 11th congressional district, marking another sign of how Hispanics are beginning to lead the polls in the country.

Lauf won the race with 15,189 votes (70%), a figure that does not yet include early, mail, or provisional ballots. On November 8, she will face the Democratic candidate in the general election.

The 29-year-old Lauf is an American of Hispanic heritage, namely from Guatemala. She is an advisor to an infant nutrition company that worked at the Trump Department of Commerce. She is the daughter of small business owners.

On social media, it is said that Lauf is the counterpart of what Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stands for; in fact, she herself says so.

“If there’s a contrast with Ocasio-Cortez, it’s that I’m driven by a love for my country, not a hate for everything it stands for.” she said in an interview for Fox News, when she was a candidate for the 2020 elections.

“Someone like me doesn’t fit the mold. These days, we’re told our skin color, our gender and our heritage determine who we are. If that’s the case, I would be impossible, but I’m not impossible. I’m a product of the American Dream,” she said in a Twitter video.

Catalina Lauf: a Latina who supported Trump

Lauf became known for being one of the few prominent Republican Latinas who defended President Trump’s immigration policies; she says she is in favor of migration, but legal and orderly migration that allows fulfilling “the American dream.”

“People like my mom and my grandmother and many other Hispanic-Americans who have come here legally feel so insulted by that, because they did it the right way. And there’s a process for it. And you should be a law-abiding citizen. President Trump is doing his best to protect this country, and we should be enforcing immigration laws,” Lauf said in 2019 when she launched her “Product of the American Dream” campaign.

In both her 2019 campaign and now, Lauf says she hopes to not only combat the loudest voices on the progressive left, but also help modernize the face of the Republican Party and the conservative movement.

Lauf criticizes mainstream media and its progressive agenda

Speaking to Fox News, Lauf discussed how mainstream media has favored the Democratic agenda.

“Mainstream media does a great job carrying water on behalf of Nancy Pelosi and AOC. The far left supports women and diversity as long as your beliefs align with their agenda. They can’t imagine that a young Latina could be a Republican. That’s part of the reason I’m running: to show that conservatives are diverse and can come from all walks of life, regardless of gender, skin color or creed,” she said in the interview.

“There is a gross double standard in the media, and Americans are starting to realize it more and more. Media needs to truly be fair and balanced, report the facts and earn their credibility back. More and more people are turning off their television, seeking other outlets due to the misreporting and I believe the media industry will feel the pain from that.,” she added.

“Biden crushed the economy”: Lauf

Since winning the election, Lauf has not made any pronouncements; however, in the last few hours she stated that “Biden has opened the border, crushed the economy and made our country weaker.”

She vowed that, from Congress, she plans to fight “against the radical Biden/Pelosi agenda every step of the way.”
