In a new onslaught of wokeness at major companies, Dr. Seuss Enterprises suspended production and sales of six of its books for alleged racism and insensitive images.

In a recent statement, Dr. Seuss Enterprises stated that the books they will stop selling “portray people in hurtful and mean ways.” The press release adds that “stopping selling these books is just one part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure that the Dr. Seuss Enterprises catalog represents and supports all communities and families.”

The books the company will stop marketing are And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, If I Ran the Zoo, McElligot’s Pool, On Beyond Zebra!, Scrambled Eggs Super!, and The Cat’s Quizzer.

The company claims to be committed to action. So hat was wrong with Dr. Seuss?

The Daily Wire reported that Learning for Justice, a group of left-leaning educators, is demanding that Dr. Seuss be canceled. While a prominent Virginia school district has taken marching orders and ordered its schools to avoid “connecting Read Across America Day with Dr. Seuss.”

In fact, one Virginia school district said Dr. Seuss children’s books contain “racial overtones” that are not suitable for “culturally sensitive” learning. The Daily Wire obtained the exclusive information, which was communicated through an announcement.

The works of Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss still remains in the children’s imagination mostly intact, but in the wake of the advent of woke culture and its totalitarian, sentimentalist worldview, even the very author who has given the most iconic stories to children has been singled out for how his books portray blacks, Asians, and other minorities.

One of the canceled books is If I Ran the Zoo. The New York Post wrote in its report, based on a 2019 article on Seuss’s work published in the journal Research on Diversity in Youth Literature, that criticism of this particular book has been for depicting Africans as “pot-bellied” and “thick-lipped.” It also describes Asian characters as “slant-eyed helpers” from “countries no one can spell.”

Another book attacked by wokes is Mulberry Street, the first children’s book the author published under his pen name. The reason? Having placed an Asian man with chopsticks to eat and a plate of rice; the text reads that they identify him as a “Chinese man who eats with chopsticks.”

However, the same cancel that could have been applied against Michelle Obama for reading the allegedly racist Seuss books, never happened. A tweet by journalist Jack Posobiec shows this with irony.

“Biden I am, and I do eat woke eggs with ham”

To make it all the more woke, Joe Biden did not mention Dr. Seuss in his speech on Read Across America Day – which is celebrated on the writer’s birthday.

For her part, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki once again evaded questions from the media, this time on the Dr. Seuss issue. “First, the proclamation was written by the Department of Education, and you can certainly talk to them about more details about its wording,” Psaki said.

She later rambled on to say that children should see themselves in the books they read, but did not said whether the omission of the author was deliberate in view of the woke hysteria being perpetrated against him.
